| These two large male polar bears weigh about 1000 to 1200 pounds each. Each year while waiting for the Hudson Bay to freeze up near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada the male polar bears in the region pass their time with a behavior known as "sparring". At times the polar bear sparring becomes so intense the bears bite each others necks pulling large tufts of hair out causing bloodshed. They do however, show no mortal aggression during these sparring matches. In this scene the beautiful arctic evening light was reflecting off the polar bear hair. Photography in this type of light created an unusually bright golden bear and was a pleasure to experience. |
